A Review of Reviews of Jaguar’s New XF Sportbrake

It’s not unusual for luxury car manufacturers to venture into station wagon production. Jaguar’s own X-Type Wagon is living proof.

But occasionally, when luxury car makers do set their minds to a station wagon, something a cut above the rest turns out. The Volvo 19800ES of the early 1970s and the more recent Ferrari FF come to mind.

To give you an idea of what we mean, here are excerpts from a variety of reviews that we found.

“Jaguar is bringing sexy back to station wagons. Scratch that. It’s bringing it to station wagons.’
Fox News

“The greenhouse is beautifully executed, with an artfully tensioned rearwards flow, and the new surfaces at the rear of the car retain the crisp, taut surfacing of the sedan.”
Motor Trend Canada

“I think out of all the wagons currently being offered from Mercedes, BMW, Buick, Volkswagen, Subaru, Audi and Volvo, the Jaguar is perhaps the most fun to drive because of its unyielding and ferocious engine.”

The Jaguar XF Sportbrake’s three-liter V-6 engine makes 380 hp and cranks out 332 ft lbs of torque.
Robb Report

Under the bodywork and from the front seats, the XF Sportbrake is like any other XF we’ve come across, so let’s focus on the new bit: the cargo bay. The vital stats are these: 565 litres with all five seats in place, and 1,700 litres when folded.
Top Gear

Finally, we know what James Bond would drive if he ever settled down: an XF Sportbrake.
Car & Driver

The wagon version of Jaguar XF is intended to be just as good as the saloon. In many ways, though, the Sportbrake is better.

‘Jaguar’s Sportbrake dances through corners that would leave most crossovers tripping over their laces.’
Wall Street Journal

It’s this combination of beautiful bodywork and the joy of driving that can potentially tilt the playing field away from stodgy, amorphously-styled SUVs and towards sportswagons like the Jaguar XF Sportbrake.
