We told you about the new Range Rover Velar went its release was announced back in March. It’s the first new model from Range Rover since the Evoque went into production in 2011. But, with Land Rover ramping up the ‘mystique’ quotient more than usual, there wasn’t much to tell you back then.
Fast forward to today, and Land Rover Canada is still shy on the details, like exactly when the Velar will be in showrooms. The LR website just says it’s ‘coming soon’, but it’s generally expected that we’ll see the 2018 Velar in showrooms in September.
But there’s no denying the buzz that’s growing as the ‘on-the-street’ debut of the Velar approaches. And luckily that’s giving us a better idea of what to expect.
Five Models Available in Canada
First, to put this into perspective, there are eight Velar models available in the UK. The five Canadian models, starting at $62,000 and topping out at $95,000, are:
1. Velar S & SE
The standard Velars. The basic difference between the two is that the SE comes standard with the 3.0L V6 supercharged engine versus the standard aluminum 4-cylinder Ingenium diesel engine in the S.
Standard features include a solar attenuated windscreen and power gesture tailgate release that senses your approach and opens automatically, and an 8-speed transmission.
2. Velar R-Dynamic SE & HSE
If you’re looking for the Velar with a design upgrade, this is it. Even the Land Rover site calls it an ‘exterior accent’. Engine options are the same as the S and SE and the most notable additional standard feature is the 360-degree parking aid.
3. Velar First Edition
This is the Velar with all the fixin’s. If you’re a serious Land Rover/Range Rover collector, you may want to get your hands on one of the limited production First Editions because only 500 are expected to be produced.
It’s not every day that Range Rover releases a new vehicle. We’re looking forward to the Velar launch and getting a test drive asap.
