This is becoming a habit. And a really good one too. Despite their unrivalled pedigree, vehicle sales at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) have never been what anyone would call ‘high volume’. Of course, the biggest reason for that is because JLR produces vehicles for more discerning drivers who are willing to make the investment in driving an exclusive creation.
But, almost exactly a year ago, we told you that 2016 was a record year for British car manufacturing, and, for the first time ever, JLR became the largest producer of vehicles by volume in the UK.
Fast forward one year and it’s like déjà vu all over again. Early in January, JLR announced their vehicle sales figures for all of 2017. At 621,109 vehicles the total sales represent a 7% increase over total sales for 2016.
The news is even more impressive closer to home. Jaguar Land Rover North America set a new company record for vehicle sales in Canada and the U.S. or 114,333 units sold in 2017, which represents an increase of 9% over the 105,104 vehicles the company sold here in 2016.
In a press release, Joe Eberhardt, president and CEO of Jaguar Land Rover North America credited the company’s newest models for the “broadened appeal of both of our great brands.”
In 2017, Land Rover released the Velar, which is the first new model of Range Rover since the Evoque in 2011. For it’s part, Jaguar released it’s first crossover SUV, the F-Pace, which received praise for its faithfulness to Jaguar’s legendary sports-car performance.
What does this mean for our Jaguar and Land Rover customers? In the overall scheme of things, probably not too much. But it’s always nice to find out that more people are discovering what you knew all along!
