We’re always excited about new models, but we really wanted to let everyone know about this one because it’s the first new model launch for Range Rover since the Evoque.
And, hey, it’s a new Range Rover!!!
Unveiled on March 1st at London’s new Design Museum, the Velar will fill the gap between the smaller Evoque and the larger Range Rover Sport.
Without further ado, here are some of the details of the new Range Rover .
- Introduced as a 2018 model, it’s likely that the first Velar’s will go on sale in the UK in the third-quarter of this year, with nothing specific yet about when it will be available in Canada.
- The name “Velar” has a long history with Range Rover that dates back to before the marque was first introduced to the public. It comes from ‘velare’, which is Latin meaning “to cover”. Land Rover used it as a code name in the late 1960s to hide the identity of the 26 pre-production Range Rover prototypes.
- The Velar’s technological advancements are akin to some of the innovations seen in Jaguar’s new I-Pace. Among the more notable and or intriguing features are massaging front seat, two 10-inch LED infotainment scressn in the back and a 5-inch electronic dashboard for the driver.
- The Velar will offer 6 powertrain options including two four-cylinder diesel variants kicking out 178 and 237 HP, a regular gas-powered four-cylinder engine outputting 247 HP and a six-cylinder diesel and supercharged V6 with 375 HP.
If you’re looking for any other clues about the Velar, we’ll give the last word to Land Rover’s Chief Design Officer, Gerry McGovern, who is quoted as saying “We call the Velar the ‘avant garde’ Range Rover. It brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the brand. The Range Rover Velar changes everything.”
