3 Tips for a Summer Road Trip During the COVID-19 Pandemic

One of the many great pleasures of owning and driving a high-performance luxury vehicle is taking it out on the open road. Whether for a day trip or an overnight getaway, the summer road trip is your chance to get your Jaguar, Aston Martin or Bentley onto the open road. Once there, you can enjoy many of their unique qualities in ways you just can’t do in the city.

Of course, this summer is different for a number of reasons, all linked to the fact that there is a pandemic afoot. It’s the COVID-19 summer road trip season.

Precautions for Road Trips During the Summer of COVID-19

Fortunately, road trips aren’t out of the question during the pandemic. Here are a few tips to enjoy your road trip in safety.

  1. Make a Plan – In previous summers, just hopping in your car and following the road to see where it leads was an option. But during the pandemic, it’s more important than ever to plan your trip.

Even if you’re not planning to go far from Toronto and the GTA, there are still restrictions and precautions you need to follow. For example, at the time of writing, the town of Sauble Beach on the Lake Huron shoreline has closed all of its beaches.

Be sure to check for closures and local restrictions for every destination on your planned route.

  2. Pack to be Prepared for Anything – In addition to the usual road trip necessities, like an emergency kit, you should pack some extras to minimize problems along the way.

Extra food and refreshments are a good idea in case stores and restaurants are closed or there are long lineups. An ample supply of hand sanitizer, face masks and gloves are a must. Disinfectant wipes will help you clean off gas pumps and public washroom surfaces too.

  3. Choose Your Destinations with Pandemic in Mind – In a nutshell, this means avoiding people as much as possible. For example, while shopping malls and amusement parks may be open, they may not be your best destination. The more people you are exposed to, the higher the chances of you coming in contact with the virus. Think more along the line of hiking and camping.
